Nut

In ancient Egyptian mythology, Nut (pronounced “Newt”), the goddess of the sky, was frequently portrayed with stars adorning her body, particularly her hands and feet. This celestial imagery is believed to have inspired the association of Nut with the Milky Way, the luminous band of stars that stretches across the night sky.

The Process

Glass bottles and jars are collected from various sources. The collected glassware is carefully washed and upcycled using simple techniques in a small factory near Cairo.

Skilled craftswomen use heat to mark the desired height and then hand-cut the glass to create the stunning pieces. According to the roughness of the rim, each piece is meticulously ground and polished on a spinning wheel with grinding discs, ensuring a smooth and even finish.

Depending on the design, the piece may remain elegantly plain or be beautifully decorated and sandblasted for added charm.
